A Promising Start: The First Week at Jurassic Lake Lodge

September 11, 2023

Join us as we dive into the exciting highlights from the inaugural week of the fishing season at Jurassic Lake Lodge. From pristine waters to remarkable catches, discover the beauty and bountiful fishing opportunities that await in this stunning natural haven.

The Strobel Lake, known for its crystalline waters and pristine surroundings, has set the stage for an incredible start to the fishing season at Jurassic Lake Lodge. As our valued guests arrived, they were met with optimal conditions and nature's own welcome, making this first week a solid start.

The stunning amount of fish and the minimal wind disturbance, plus the usual quiet atmosphere on the lake mirrored the serenity of our surroundings and provided ideal conditions for an unforgettable fishing experience.

Now, let's delve into the numbers that underscore the success of our first week:

During the week, approximately 200 specimens weighing over seven pounds were caught per customer, which is quite impressive, especially when considering that three out of ten anglers were first-timers with fly fishing, and we also experienced some snow, but likely and luckily the last snowfall of the year.

This gives us an estimate of 30 fish per day in the range of 7 to 20 pounds, which is more than acceptable this time of year. Some of the trout were medium size, but we also had several bigger specimens reaching up to 20 pounds, and even some bigger ones that managed to get away, looks like fortune favored fish on this occasion. Not bad for the early season to have a glance at the abundance of Rainbow Trout in Strobel Lake to come.

The preferred flies of choice were dry, showing good results, some even dared to use streamers and nymphs.

The most productive beats, as usual this time of year, were the river mouth and the surrounding bays, including the renowned Bahia de Cochinos, boasting an average catch of 10 trout per angler per session. Bahia de Cochinos is a challenging spot for fishing due to its exposure to the wind and casting difficulty, but it is home to perhaps the finest trout in the entire area. Overcoming these challenges leads to a truly substantial reward.

The opening week was a solid start, our first group of anglers did a great job. With favorable weather conditions, great catches that can only grow high, it's a great time to embark on your own fishing adventure at Jurassic Lake Lodge.
