CHARTER FLIGHT SERVICE

For the fastest and most convenient way to reach Jurassic Lake Lodge, we offer a charter flight from El Calafate to a private airstrip just 15 minutes from the lodge. This one-hour flight allows anglers to maximize their time on the water while enjoying breathtaking aerial views of Patagonia.

The service is operated by a trusted third-party company, with flights available on select Saturdays at a fixed rate. On other days, the flight can be arranged upon request, with pricing depending on the number of passengers. The aircraft has an 8-passenger capacity, though we typically fly with 6 passengers to allow for luggage. Extra baggage is transported separately by land and arrives at the lodge later the same day.

Departure is usually early in the morning, but the exact schedule depends on weather conditions. We confirm hotel pick-up times for the airport transfer the day before departure. For return flights, we strongly advise guests not to book a departing flight from El Calafate to Buenos Aires before 3:00 PM, as delays due to weather may occur.

Important Notice

This charter flight service is provided by an independent third-party company. Jurassic Lake Lodge assumes no responsibility for flight delays, cancellations, or any issues related to the service. We strongly recommend that guests purchase travel insurance to cover potential disruptions.

OTHER INFORMATION

All visitors to Argentina must have a valid passport to enter the country.

Visa Requirements
  • United States: Citizens of the United States do not need a visa for stays of up to 90 days for tourism purposes.

  • Canada: Citizens of Canada require a visa to enter Argentina. We recommend checking the official ArgentineImmigration Website for the most up-to-date information and to apply online.

  • Europe: Citizens of most European countries do not need a visa for stays of up to 90 days for tourism purposes.

  • Other Nationalities: Please consult the Argentine Immigration Website to confirm visa requirements.

Currency

US dollars are widely accepted throughout Argentina, and you can easily exchange dollars for pesos at hotels, banks, or authorized exchange offices. While street exchanges were once common, rates are now comparable to official channels, making banks and exchange offices the safest and most reliable options. When paying in US dollars, merchants often provide change in pesos.

Travel Cash

We recommend bringing at least $800 USD in cash for gratuities, small tips in town, and incidental expenses such as snacks and drinks at airports. Please note that at Jurassic Lake Lodge, we only accept cash payments; traveler’s checks and credit cards are not accepted.

Gratuities

Gratuities are recommended in the range of $80 - $100 per person per day, which can be given to the lodge manager to be distributed among the staff.

Fishing Licenses

Fishing licenses are included in all packages and issued on-site upon arrival.

Climate

The Patagonian climate is unpredictable, with strong winds and variable temperatures. February can be warm, while the early season and especially March and April can bring cold temperatures. Snow is possible later in the season, so packing accordingly is essential. Regardless of the time of year, sunscreen and high-quality windproof clothing are a must.

Clothing Recommendations

We recommend layering your clothing to adapt to changing weather conditions throughout the day. Avoid cotton and instead opt for wool or synthetic materials for warmth and comfort.

Packing List:

  • Outerwear: High-quality windproof fleece and rain jacket (mandatory)

  • Base layers: Thermal underwear and breathable layers

  • Accessories: Wool socks, a wool cap, and multiple pairs of gloves (especially for late March and April)

  • Footwear: Rugged, waterproof camp shoes

  • Waders & Boots:

    • 1 pair of rubber sole or felt wading boots

    • 1 pair of breathable waders

Beverages & Alcohol

Beer, wine, and strong alcoholic drinks are included in your package, except for the whiskey selection, which is available for purchase by the shot or bottle.

Medical Facilities

The nearest hospital is in El Calafate, approximately 8 hours from the lodge. Due to the remote location, we strongly recommend purchasing travel insurance that includes medical evacuation coverage.

Power & Communications
  • The lodge has 24-hour electric power, supplied by a solar system (220 volts, 50 cycles).

  • A standard converter and European adapter (two-pronged plug) should work throughout Argentina and at the lodge.

  • The lodge has a satellite phone for emergencies.

  • 24-hour Starlink internet with Wi-Fi is available.

  • No cell phone service is available, so we recommend using WhatsApp, Messenger, or other internet-based communication services.

Laundry

Laundry service is available at the lodge free of charge for emergencies.

FLIES

Anglers are welcome to bring their own flies, but we also offer a carefully selected assortment for sale at the lodge, featuring the most productive patterns for Jurassic Lake and the Barrancoso River.

If you choose to bring your own flies, we strongly recommend ensuring they are tied on high-quality, strong hooks. The trout here are exceptionally large and powerful, and weaker hooks can bend or break easily during a fight. Sturdy, well-tied flies will greatly improve your chances of landing these incredible fish.

Our lodge selection includes proven patterns that consistently produce results, so if you need to stock up or adjust your approach based on current conditions, we’ve got you covered!
